Unbreakable bond: dog and cat rescued together refuse to be separated

The story of Sassy and Shadow (thedodoc.com) is a testament to the unbreakable bond that can form between unlikely pairs.

Found abandoned in a field by a Good Samaritan, this 6-year-old dog and 1-year-old cat were left with no choice but to depend on each other for survival.

Even when rescued by Jackson County Animal Shelter, Sassy and Shadow refused to be separated and remained glued to each other’s side. This is their heartwarming story.

Sticking together through thick and thin

Sassy and Shadow’s loyalty to each other was evident from the moment they were found.

When they were originally discovered, their rescuer was touched by their devotion, especially when he noticed that the dog let the cat eat first. “It was so sweet,” said Lydia Sattler, JCAS’s animal services director.

The duo stuck together during their ride to the shelter, and once they arrived, it was clear that they couldn’t be separated.

Snuggles and cuddles

At the shelter, Sassy and Shadow never strayed too far from each other. They snuggled and cuddled together every day, much to the delight of the shelter staff. Sassy and Shadow’s bond left a lasting impression on everyone who met them, and it was clear that they needed to find a forever home together.

Finding their happy ending

The search for Sassy and Shadow’s forever home was a long one, but it finally paid off. After more than a month in the shelter, the pair was adopted by a loving family who understood the importance of their bond.

Now, Sassy and Shadow have a new life filled with love, adventure, and plenty of food. Sattler still receives updates from their new family and is happy to know that they are thriving.
