Yuan Zai, the first panda cub born in Taiwan, made her public debute in front of thousands of excited visitors at the Taipei City Zoo on Monday. Yuan Zai was born on July 6, 2012 and weighed in at 6.35 ounces at birth. Now, six months later, she weighs approx 14 kilograms.
Yuan Zai is growing up wonderfully and happily captivated crowds for 40 minutes before needing a nap. The birth of Yuan Zai gives hope to the Panda species who are now fewer than 1,600 in the wild and an additional 300 in captivity around the world.
Yuan Zai learns from her mother.
