This week, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) posted Should Your Pet Wear a Costume? Which Halloween Treats are Off-Limits? Read Our Safety Tips and I compared it to my article (from last year) Important Halloween Safety Tips from Veterinarians.

Cat in a Pirate HatJennifer C. on flickr / CC-by-2.0While I didn't find out about any new dangers this year, I was reminded that it's important to have tags on your pet with proper identification and pets should also be microchipped (even if they are indoor pets).

The first article I wrote on Paw Mane Fin went into detail about how my apartment was broken into (and I almost lost my two cats).

A couple of days ago, The Star's Francine Kopun published Halloween costumes for pets become big business and I suppose I wasn't surprised. It appears that daytime dog walking events before Halloween night are becoming popular.

Kopun's article made reference to the annual Spooktacular Dog Walk where people can come out in costume with their doggie(s). What's more, Global Pet Foods offered discounts for participating pets and Treats Happen provided some tasty dog snacks. And there even was a prize awarded for "best costume."

In Kopun's piece, the executive vice-president of Rubie’s Costume Company, Howard Beige, shared what the top five pet costumes in Canada are this year:

1) Minions

2) Any Star Wars Character

3) Ironman

4) Captain America

5) Wonder Woman

According to PetSmart, the most popular costume this year is Batman.

Up next is a short 1:15 second video by Island Animal Hospital that summarizes the safety tips for Halloween.
