Her trademark scowl and bad attitude has risen her up to the rank of Queen among internet cat memes, but recently her owner has revealed exactly how much she has earned from them. The amount will make you grumpy towards your lazy cat that eats all your food and makes you no money.
In a recent interview owner with Grumpy Cat owner Tabatha Bundesen from Morristown, Arizona, she has admitted that her cat has made more than $99 million dollars from various revenue streams since her first appearance on the internet. To put that into perspective, this cat has earned more than Hollywood stars like Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz and Matthew McConaughey. Not only has the cat appeared in a countless series of internet memes, but it has a best-selling series of books and movie.
Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, was born with dwarfism and an underbite which gave her that trademark disgruntled expression. She first appeared on a YouTube video in 2012 which has received 15.7 million hits to date.
Her owner finds her cat's success in such a short amount of time absolutely mind-blowing and states, "I was able to quit my job as a waitress within days of her first appearance on social media and the phone simply hasn't stopped ringing since."
Now Grumpy has 521,000 followers on Instagram, 255,000 followers on Twitter and hosts a whole army of merchandise with her face on it. She published her first book, Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book, to help the world gain attain true grumpiness and had her Hollywood debut in Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever that attracted millions of movie goers. Currently, she is the spokescat for Friskies brand cat food and is working on a deal for her own brand of iced coffee, Grumppuccino.
