Just like any other industrious kid on summer break, 12-year-old Dominic Locatelli set up a lemonade stand in his San Diego, California neighborhood. Like most stands, he handed out fresh lemonade and cookies for a nominal fee, but something sets this stand apart from the pack. Dominic is using the stand to raise money for a sick dog, one that he doesn't even own.
Rosie is a six-month-old Yorkie that actually belongs to friends of his parents. Rosie has a heart murmur and without surgery, she wouldn't even make it to her first birthday. After Dominic heard that the dog would be needing surgery, the tale reminded him of his own dog. Dominic's 17-year-old Yorkie passed away recently and he recalled how sad that made him. So, even though he didn't know Rosie personally, the boy set out to help anyway.
After weeks of running the lemonade stand, Dominic finally got to meet Rosie on this past Sunday face to face. Her owners brought her over in order to thank the amazing young man personally for his effort. His lemonade stand combined with the efforts of a GoFundMe page by The Rescued Pup rescue operation has raised over $5,000 for Rosie, more than enough to cover her surgery. According to the GoFundMe page, Rosie's surgery is set for July 1st.
They made this post to thank everyone who donated, many of whom were made aware of the situation and urged on by Dominic:
"Without everyone's help this little girl wouldn't be getting her surgery. We are beyond thankful and wish there were words to tell each and every one of our donors and supporters how much of a difference they are making in our dogs' lives."
Thanks to the combined efforts of Dominic, Rosie's owners and the rescue organization, this little pup has gotten a whole new lease on life.
