Who doesn't like a good trip to the beach? The warm sand beneath your toes, the gentle roar of the ocean, the smell of salt in the air and the warm sun on your face, there is little not to like about a trip to the beach. Humans love a good beach day, but dogs love it more especially those who are cooped up all day. However, for Duncan Lou Who the boxer dog, a day at the beach was almost out of the question. In fact, walking at all may have been out of the question for this pup if not for a few helpful hands.
Duncan Lou Who was born with a severe deformity in which his pelvis and back legs were severely twisted leaving him unable to walk properly. At first, veterinarians thought to wait until the puppy grew older to try a corrective surgery, something that helps most dogs with birth defects but can only be done after they finish growing. When Duncan Lou Who reached 8 weeks old, however, the veterinarians deemed that they could not perform the corrective surgery without endangering the dog's life. However, they took a gamble and amputated Duncan Lou Who's back legs that were throwing off his balance and getting badly injured as he tried to drag them around with him. The amputation was a complete success and hasn't slowed down this energetic dog one bit, in fact he can still outrun most people. The Panda Paw Rescue who cares for Duncan Lou Who got him a custom wheelchair, but the dog has found little use for it.
Watching this spunky pup enjoy his first day at the beach is inspiring. He runs much like a normal dog even without his two rear legs. As one can see from the above video from Panda Paws Rescue's YouTube page, his handicap can't keep him from enjoying the sand, the surf, or taking bites at the camera man. Watching this plucky pooch enjoy his day at the beach will make you feel like you can do anything.
