On November 30th, an animal rescue organization in Montevideo, Uruguay received a plea to help a mutilated dog taking shelter in a makeshift dog house from a concerned resident. Although the dog was found in a backyard, no one knew who he belonged to, who abused him or how the tortured animal got there. The little dog, named Nick at the scene, was missing all four paws, left unable to move. He also had damage to one ear and was absent part of his nose.
The Pets Without a Home (Animales Sin Hogar) organization did not think twice about swooping in to the rescue. They took Nick to a local veterinarian where they learned more about his injuries. It was determined that Nick has been tortured for roughly over a month. His paws were bound with something that slowly cut off the blood flow to his feet, causing them to fall off and leave portions of his leg bones exposed on each foot.
Although how Nick lost parts of his ear and nose are unknown, what is known is that it must have been unimaginably painful. Even through the pain of his debilitating injuries, Nick has not lost the will to live. He offers nothing but love for those that rescued him, showering them with kisses and wagging his tail each time they come to visit.
But what becomes of Nick now?
A dog without any of his feet will have a difficult time living, but from outside donations, Animals Without a Home has raised enough money to help get Nick back on his feet, literally. Veterinarians are already reconstructing Nick’s extremities to prepare him for prosthetic legs. Sometime in the near future, Nick will be able to run, jump and play like any normal do although he has a long rehabilitation process to go through first.
