Jann Arden, Canadian singer and songwriter, adds her name to the growing list of people against the Alberta wild horse cull.
She joined rancher Darrell Glover in his airplane this past weekend to stage their own count of wild horses. They saw about 50 horses, yet the Province has recounted that there are almost 1,000 animals and is convinced that they need to reduce the numbers of wild horses by 200 in order to reduce the impact on the land. According to Arden, “what I saw looking over that land, the thousands and thousands and thousands of acres, nothing is being ruined". She plans on doing another ariel count soon.
She continued to say that the prospect of people trapping these wild horses for the purpose of slaughtering them for money is “new heights of being disgusting".
Arden has now joined with ranchers, vets and horse lovers who are aiming to convince the government to consider alternative methods of population control, such as contraception.
Help Alberta WildiesIn order to help the cause, she autographed 100 copies of a Duane Star print that will hopefully eventually be sold to raise funds for a wild horse contraceptive program in place of the cull.
No one wants to see these animals be sent for slaughter and some are going as far as wanting the government to declare them a heritage animal so that they may be protected in the future from such attacks as this one put on by the Province.
Hopefully with the added support of Jann Arden, along with those who are currently fighting against this cull, Alberta's wild horses will continue to see freedom.
